Serene Sojourn by Greg Gutierrez
The train trundled timely,
Tracks trembling...tender tones,
Soft steel singing a soothing song.
Silent seats, still and spacious,
Sunlight slanting through silvered glass.
Slumber slipping in, slow and sweet.
No coughs, no calls, no clatter
Only the calm,
cool current of the car Cradling me in quiet contentment.
In that moment, a stranger’s gift was absence,
A blissful, benevolent brevity of being
Where peace pressed close,
And I awoke renewed.
