Live Reading & Generative Writing Workshop with Hannah Palmer

Join West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), Lostintheletters and writer Hannah Palmer for an afternoon of community and writing inspiration under the old growth forest canopy in west Atlanta. This event opens with a poetry reading and author talk, then moves into a generative workshop drawing on the watershed’s dry creek beds for inspiration as we consider where we each hold space for knowledges we’ve lost, and how we practice inviting memories, languages, and dreams to return.

Hannah S. Palmer is a writer and artist from the Southside of Atlanta. Through her essays, lectures, and collaborative projects, Palmer reconsiders urban rivers, environmental justice, and the forms of nature that persist within urban environments. Among these projects is Finding the Flint, an investigation into the headwaters of the river flowing underneath Atlanta’s mega-airport. In 2024, she published The Pool Is Closed: Segregation, Summertime, and the Search for a Place to Swim, which examines the social, racial, and political dimensions of access to water in the United States. Her work is distinguished by its attention to the stories embedded within urban landscapes and by a nuanced reflection on the ways infrastructure, water, memory, and the living world shape our everyday experience of the city.

The West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life within the West Atlanta Watershed by protecting, preserving and restoring our community’s natural resources. WAWA represents African American neighborhoods in Northwest and Southwest Atlanta that are most inundated with environmental stressors, but are least represented at environmental decision-making tables.
