Live Reading & Generative Writing Workshop with Saretta Morgan

"All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was." – Toni Morrison

Join West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), Lostintheletters and poet Saretta Morgan for an afternoon of community and writing inspiration under the old growth forest canopy in west Atlanta. This event opens with a poetry reading and author talk, then moves into a generative workshop drawing on the watershed’s dry creek beds for inspiration as we consider where we each hold space for knowledges we’ve lost, and how we practice inviting memories, languages, and dreams to return.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Saretta Morgan's debut poetry collection, Alt-Nature, received the Southwest Book Award and was a finalist for both the Lambda Literary and Publishing Triangle awards in lesbian poetry. Her work engages ecologies and forms of connectivity that develop alongside processes of U.S. militarization. Over the past decade her critical practice has grown through participation in veteran-led demilitarization organizing; grassroots humanitarian aid in the U.S./Mexico borderlands; water protection; Black community healing initiatives; and grassroots conservation. Lately she draws inspiration from revolutionary movements and their intimacies with the earth. She watches birds and is inspired by their intensity of focus and clarity of voice.
